Pigliavento Builders Company History

Pigliavento Builders is a family owned home building company established in 1983. The company was founded by Edward Pigliavento, Sr. and two of his sons, Edward, Jr. and Michael. Working along side his father for many years, Edward Sr. became a skilled craftsman in many different construction trades. He worked as a union mason and site foreman before going into business with his sons. Unfortunately, we lost Ed, Sr. to cancer in 1995.

Edward, Jr. followed in his father’s footsteps and also became a union mason prior to becoming a founding member of Pigliavento Builders. During that time he became skilled in all different phases of masonry construction including brick, concrete block, poured concrete, stucco and tile setting. In the early years, working along side his father, he also became a highly skilled finish carpenter. Because of his diverse experience in many different phases of construction, Ed spends the majority of his time in the field, doing trim work, masonry and customer service. He also oversees our jobs from the drywall phase to completion.  He is the President of Pigliavento Builders and his highly involved in all business development along side his brother Mike.

Michael graduated from Hudson Valley Community College in 1982  with a degree in Construction Technology. After college, he worked as a residential framer. He also worked throughout high school and college as a mechanics assistant, working on heavy equipment. Mike is the Secretary-Treasurer of Pigliavento Builders, managing the business side of the company. In addition, he sets the schedule for all projects from the beginning phases of construction through drywall, then he hands it off to his brother Ed to bring the project to completion. Over the years, Mike has split his time between the office and the field. His trade skills include framing, siding, roofing, concrete footings & flatwork and excavation. Mike would much prefer being in a backhoe or bulldozer than behind the desk but he understands the importance of management. He and Ed compliment each other’s skill sets and that has been an import ingredient for the success of the company over the years.

Mike is also chairman of the school board at Schenectady Christian School in the Village of Scotia, New York where all three of his children have attended. He is also very involved in his church where he donates much of his time to community projects. He has traveled annually to South Africa, donating his time to help with building projects for schools and orphanages organized through his church. When ever called upon to help,

He always finds the time to do what he can.

Edward, Jr. was the catalyst for starting the company. It was his dream to be in business for himself. His younger brother Michael said, “If you’re in I’m in”. Ed, Sr. couldn’t resist the temptation to join his sons on their venture. They originally went into business with the intensions of building and managing apartments. They purchased an approved project named Brookview Court Apartments in Rotterdam, New York and established in business under the name of Brookview Court Incorporated in September of 1983. Since they were a new business, they could only get the financing to build the project but not to keep it. So, they moved forward as a building company, stuck with the name Brookview Court Incorporated. It wasn’t until 1999 that they decided to file a d/b/a using the name Pigliavento Builders.

In addition to Mike & Ed, their cousin Mark Pigliavento has been involved from the very beginning. Mark has an A.A.S. degree from Hudson Valley Community College in Industrial Technology & Drafting  and a B.S. degree from the State University College at Buffalo in Industrial Technology.  His college degrees concentrated on Drafting & Design and Production Planning and Control, which adapted well to the Home Building Industry. After college, he helped Ed, Jr., look at different apartment projects and once Ed found Brookview Court, Mark started to work on building plans. In the beginning, Mark did drafting projects on the side for the company until October of 1985 when he joined the company full time. Mark is primarily in charge of design & architecture, working with the same Architect since 1985. In addition, he does the estimating, purchasing and scheduling for all new housing projects. He assists Mike & Ed throughout the building process from start to completion.

Vanessa Pigliavento-DiGesare (Michael’s daughter) joined our staff in 2003 right out of High School. She is a licensed Real Estate agent working for The Alani Group real estate company owned by Mike & Ed which specializes in new construction sales on select Pigliavento Builders projects. Vanessa is working towards her brokers license and will eventually manage the Alani Group Real Estate company for Mike & Ed. She is also our Selections Coordinator. She works with all of our customers, assisting them through the selection process.

Mike and Ed are also privileged to have a staff of employees whose dedication and hard work ethic are much appreciated. Renee Jablonski has been our Bookkeeper since February of 2000. She oversees Pigliavento Builders in addition to all of the other Business interests that Mike & Ed are involved with. Michael Bruce is our foreman in the field. He has been with our company since 1995. Mike is a skilled carpenter by trade, however he is knowledgeable in all phases of residential construction.

Mike & Ed started a Pigliavento Builders division in Syracuse in 2003, headed up by Jack Scalice (Mike’s brother in law). Jack is also a graduate from Hudson Valley Community College with a Degree in Construction Technology. He worked with us in Schenectady from 1983 thru 1995 before relocating to Syracuse. Upon his arrival in Syracuse, he went to work for a large homebuilder in the Syracuse market where he worked as a site coordinator for eight years. Because of his unique experience, working with Mike & Ed in Schenectady and eight years of experience in the Syracuse area, Mike & Ed decided to branch out and start a Syracuse division. Jack does an excellent job running the Syracuse division where he has gained a reputation as being one of Syracuse’s finer homebuilders.

We at Pigliavento Builders are proud of our history and the business we have built over the past 25 years. We are appreciative of all of our customers, employees, subcontractors and vendors we have been associated with over the years. It is truly an honor to be in the homebuilding industry. Over the years we pride ourselves as being a family owned business and each new home we build, it is an honor to say “From our family to yours”.

In addition to Michael and Edward Jr., their cousin Mark Pigliavento, has been with the company since 1985. Mark has received an A.A.S. degree in Industrial Technology / Drafting from the Hudson Valley Community College and a B.S. Degree in Industrial Technology from the State University at Buffalo. Mark is responsible for the majority of designs and architecture. He also does the estimating, purchasing and scheduling for construction projects.

Our family takes pride in our business and we are very proud of our entire staff. Mike and Ed look forward to meeting with each and every customer. This is the biggest difference when comparing Pigliavento Builders to other large home building companies. Most of our competition consists of large general contractors who use subcontractors for all of the construction. When using these types of builders, the customer usually meets with the real estate agent and may never meet the builder. This may be fine for some buyers, but we think that customers deserve to meet their home builder. After all, building a home can be one of the largest investments you will ever make.

We hope you will consider using Pigliavento Builders for your next construction project. If you are in the market for a new home, we invite you to visit any of our new home communities in the capital region.
